Thank you for trusting Know the Plan, a project by Every Kid Learns, LLC. We're committed to protecting your privacy and keeping your information safe. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Who We Are
Know the Plan is an educational tool designed to help parents better understand their child's IEP, 504 plan, or evaluation. Our mission is to turn confusing educational documents into clear, parent-friendly insights that empower families.
2. Information We Collect
We only collect the information needed to deliver your summary and improve the experience:
- Name and email address: Collected when you submit the form so we can send your summary and any updates you've opted into.
- Document text: When you upload an IEP, 504 plan, or evaluation, the text is extracted from your PDF in your own browser, then sent securely to generate your summary. Your document and its text are processed temporarily and not saved or stored without your permission.
- Survey responses: If you complete an optional feedback form, responses may be stored anonymously to help us improve the tool.
- Basic site analytics: Standard cookies or analytics to understand general usage trends (not personal details).
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information only to:
- Generate and email your personalized summary
- Send optional updates or improvements (only if you opted in)
- Understand how parents use Know the Plan so we can make it more effective
We do not use your data for marketing without consent, and we never sell or rent your information. We also do not use your data to train artificial intelligence models. The third-party AI services we use to generate summaries are configured to not retain or train on your inputs.
4. How Know the Plan Works (Plainly)
Know the Plan uses third-party AI (specifically OpenAI's GPT models) to generate your plain-language summary. The AI is configured not to retain or train on your inputs. Your document is processed temporarily and discarded once your summary is delivered. Lauren personally designs and maintains the prompt instructions that guide the AI's analysis — that craft is what makes the summary specific, warm, and actually useful.
One important note: your summary is for information only. AI-generated summaries can miss things or describe them imperfectly, so always rely on the original document and your school team for decisions. Know the Plan is not legal, medical, or educational advice, and it does not replace an advocate, attorney, evaluator, or your child's school team.
5. Data Security
We use secure, encrypted connections (SSL) through trusted tools like Make.com to process information. Your document text and summary requests are handled temporarily and deleted automatically after processing.
6. Information Sharing
We do not share or sell personal information. Limited data may be accessed only by secure service providers who help us operate the tool (e.g., Make.com, OpenAI, and any email-delivery services) — each bound by their own privacy and data-protection policies.
7. Your Choices & Rights
You have full control over your information:
- You can request that we delete your data or unsubscribe from updates at any time.
- To request deletion or ask a question, email lauren@everykidlearns.co.
8. Children's Privacy
Know the Plan is intended for use by adults — typically parents or guardians. We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children under 18.
9. Policy Updates
We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally to reflect improvements or legal requirements. The date at the top of this page shows the most recent update.
